Fairview Learning Network

  Program for Hearing Overview

The Fairview Learning reading program for hearing students is designed as a pullout individualized program that presents a jump-start for teaching reading. The program, which requires approximately 20 to 25 minutes per student twice a week, is intended to supplement, not replace, existing curricula.   It can also be used with adults to dramatically and quickly improve reading comprehension skills.

The major strengths of this program are the speed with which participants' reading skills improve and the large amount of improvement (usually at least 3 or more grade levels), as well as other outcome measures such as improvement in self-esteem and confidence levels.  The one-on-one interaction that occurs during each participant's reading session forms the basis for this success.  All components are covered and assessed in each session.  This student-centered program provides criterion-referenced tests, teacher and student accountability records, continuous, positive feedback, plus immediate reading improvement and authentic assessment. Tutors are available to come to sites to implement the program or initial and follow-up trainings can be arranged.
